An AeroPress is an awesome way to brew coffee when you're out and about or simply at home. Brewing coffee with the AeroPress is super easy, and it doesn't take up much space, so it's perfect for when you're heading outdoors.

At first, the AeroPress can look intimidating, but we promise it isn't. We'll show you how to make AeroPress coffee in about five minutes - you'll be surprised at just how easy it is.

Follow our step-by-step instructions below or watch Josh's YouTube tutorial here:

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

AeroPress Coffee requires 2 minutes brewing time + prep

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

AeroPress prices start at around $50. You can purchase both the original AeroPress coffee maker and the new AeroPress Go in our online store.

WHAT COFFEE GEAR WILL I NEED?

  • AeroPress coffee maker, including the plunger, brew chamber and basket
  • AeroPress filter paper
  • AeroPress coffee scoop
  • 18 grams (3 tbsp) fresh coffee grounds
  • Hand grinder (if using coffee beans)
  • Hot water (fresh off the boil at 94-96 degrees Celsius)
  • Spoon
  • Mug
  • Timer

STEPS TO MAKING AEROPRESS COFFEE:

Note: In the video above, we brewed coffee using the AeroPress Go, which is the newer version of the original AeroPress. It's a little bit smaller and comes with its own mug, meaning you have one less thing to pack to enjoy your cup of coffee on the go.

The AeroPress makes about seven to eight ounces of coffee.

Step 1 - Prepare your AeroPress

First, place the AeroPress filter in the basket and give it a rinse with hot water to get rid of any paper filter taste.

Then, preheat the AeroPress brew chamber by rinsing it with hot water. You can do the same with your mug to help keep your coffee hot for longer.

Step 2 - Measure 18 grams (3 tbsp or one AeroPress scoop) of ground coffee

Always try to use fresh coffee beans for the best result. If you don't have a grinder, pre-ground, vacuum-sealed coffee will still make a delicious cup.

If you're using coffee beans, grind them to a uniform medium-fine grind size - similar to table salt.

Make sure the AeroPress brew chamber is empty of any water, then attach the basket and place it on top of your mug.

Add the freshly ground coffee into the chamber, giving it a shake to make sure it's level.

Step 3 - Add hot water

Make sure your water is just off the boil, about 94-96 degrees. Using boiling water will make your coffee bitter.

Quickly hit the coffee grounds with hot water and spin the brew chamber to make sure they're all covered.

Continue to pour water into the chamber until you hit number 3 on your AeroPress Go or number 4 on your traditional AeroPress. Gently stir the coffee to make sure all the grounds are saturated.

Insert the plunger at a slight angle to create a pressure seal and wait for approximately 1 min and 45 seconds while your coffee brews.

Step 4 - Plunge your coffee

Once your timer goes off, ensure the plunger is attached property and gently press down with steady pressure.

If you hit any resistance, stop for a second and then resume.

Stop pressing down when you hear a hissing sound as the plunger hits the coffee grounds.

Remove the AeroPress and enjoy your perfect cup of delicious coffee.

And that's how to make AeroPress coffee - it's easy as.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY AEROPRESS?

The AeroPress is equally easy to clean. You can do so in just a few steps:

  1. Take off the basket and pop out the coffee grounds and filter.
  2. Pour water through the brew chamber to give it a rinse.
  3. Clean the rubber plunger with hot kettle water and you’re ready for your next brew.
